Saint Patricks Day

We Started off the week counting gold coins and putting them in numbered pots.

They found gold that had been hidden in the toy room and took turns throwing the gold into the leprechauns pot.

They dressed up like leprechauns and danced with rainbow streamers to attract the leprechauns.

We learned about diamond shapes and the kids made things out of diamonds.

For our party we frosted shamrock cookies (Thanks Amanda!)

They made lucky leprechaun hats

After putting on their lucky hats and finding the treasure map, they were ready for the hunt!

Some of the clues led them to look in the fridge...

Under chairs....

In the blocks....

and then outside.

They danced a leprechaun jig...

                                         Looked in trees...

In the playhouse...

Down the slide...

And finally to the storage bench, where....

They found Gold!!!!!

Dr. Suess Unit

The Lorax

We started our Lorax day by watching the original Dr. Suess Video of The Lorax.
After discussing the story, the children painted paper plates orange to make them into The Lorax.

While the paint was drying, the kids traced their hands and cut them out to make the mustache of the Lorax.

The older kids put together our Dr. Suess Cat in the Hat word families and practiced sounding out the words.

To finish off our day we made colorful Dr. Suess Cupcakes

Gertrude McFuzz

One of my favorite stories is the story of Gertrude McFuzz. It is the story of a bird who wants to have more feathers to be like Lolla-lee-lou. So she goes to her uncle who is a doctor and asks what she can do. He tells her about some special berries that makes you grow feathers. Long story short, she ends up eating so many berries that she can't fly back home. The other birds come to her rescue and fly her home and help pluck out all of the feathers until she is back to her original self. We talked about each of us being unique and being happy with who we are. Afterwards we made us some great feathery tails!

Wacky Wednesday
To start off Wacky Wednesday, all of the kids put something on backwards. We read the story Wacky Wednesday by Dr. Suess and saw all sorts of wacky things.
We then decided to do some wacky things ourselves.

First we had some Wacky Races
The kids put their shoes on their hands and raced from one end of the room to the other.

Then we raced running backwards...

This is our scooting on our bums race...

And finally on our backs!

We finished Wacky Wednesday by making Wacky worms out of our letter W's.

We finished off our unit with our Fox in Socks Day.

The kids practiced putting socks on our stuffed animals.

We practiced cutting out shapes...

To finish us off we took all of our socks off and got ready for our Sock Hop!

While the music played, the kids walked around our lower case letters until the music stopped. If their letter was called out they got to pick out a pair of socks from the middle.

When everyone had a pair of socks on we turned on some crazy songs and hopped and danced!
